Essentials Every Notary Should Always Have on Hand!!

For notaries, preparedness is key to delivering top-notch service to clients. Each appointment presents unique challenges, so having a well-equipped notary bag ensures you’re ready for anything. Here are five essential items every notary should carry:

1. Notary Stamp:

The cornerstone of your notary toolkit, your stamp is crucial for notarizing documents. Always ensure it leaves a crisp, clean impression before heading out. To maintain its quality, re-ink your stamp monthly.

2. Notary Journal:

Although not every state mandates a journal, it’s advisable for all notaries to keep a detailed record of their notarizations. Always carry your journal and keep it secure. Looking for a journal that streamlines your appointments? Check out my custom-designed notary journal in my Etsy shop for efficient and straightforward documentation.

3. Blue and Black Pens:

Having an ample supply of blue and black ink pens is essential, as different documents may require different ink colors. Extra pens are always a good idea. I prefer using BIC pens for all my appointments. Unsure which ink color to use? Read my blog post for tips on when to choose blue or black ink.

4. Cell Phone:

Your cell phone is indispensable for communicating with signers and working with title offices or signing services. You might need to contact someone for questions or guidance. Always have a fully charged phone with you, and use it for navigation and safety by sharing your location.

5. Notary Binder:

My favorite item is a well-organized notary binder. It can be a lifesaver during appointments, containing scripts for various documents and extra notarial certificates for unexpected needs. Include state laws or a notary primer for quick reference. Check out my notary binder for tips on what to include.

By ensuring these five items are always in your notary bag, you'll be prepared to handle each appointment professionally and efficiently, upholding the high standards required of a notary public.
